Subject: FW: Save the Date -- Information on Upcoming Stakeholder Meetings -- Home Inspectors and Mold Related Services
On June 27, 2007, Governor Charlie Crist signed Senate Bill 2234 relating to home inspections and mold-related services into law effective July 1, 2010. In so doing, the Governor clearly acknowledged that additional consumer protection is warranted in the fields of home inspection, mold assessment, and mold remediation. As the Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) moves forward to implement this new law, we would like to work closely with various stakeholders to facilitate a discussion that ensures that we license efficiently and regulate fairly. Simply stated, we are looking for your input as we move forward. Since you have either expressed interest in being included in the discussions or have already volunteered input, I wanted to notify you of the planned schedule of upcoming stakeholder meetings.
We have scheduled a meeting in four different cities across the state – Tallahassee , Jacksonville , Orlando , and Ft. Lauderdale for your convenience. Both home inspection and mold related services meetings will be held the same day. The home inspection meetings will be held from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM and the mold related services meetings will be held from 1:30 – 4:30 PM. We will also provide a call-in number for those who wish to listen to the meetings via telephone. Since the law is to take effect July 1st, 2010, we expect a large number of stakeholders to attend these meetings. Therefore, those stakeholders who call in will only be able to listen. Each meeting will focus on the requirements of the Florida Statutes as the starting point for discussions. We will discuss grandfathering provisions, requirements for criminal history background checks and examinations. In the event there is a hurricane watch or warning issued for any part of the state, please check the department’s web page (http://www.myflorida.com/dbpr) to determine whether or not a particular meeting is still being held as scheduled.
Finally, the department has established websites for both home inspections and mold related-services:
Home inspections – http://www.myfloridalicense.com/dbpr/pro/homein/index.html
Mold-related services – http://www.myfloridalicense.com/dbpr/pro/mold/index.html
Please check these websites for additional information. I recommend that you also review the appropriate Florida Statutes (Part XV, Ch. 468, F.S. – Home Inspectors and Part XVI, Ch. 468, F.S. – Mold-related services) prior to the meetings so that you can be better prepared.
